TB Collector: Sir, you don't have a choice, please pay the toll or I'll be forced to call the officer standing right over there.

Skinny: Which officer yuh a talk bout? Weh part him deh?

TB Collector: Yuh see the officer standing over there with the gold-teeth, the dark glasses, the bend-up face, and the M-16? Yes dat same one?

Skinny: Awhoah. A just choo mi car overload and mi nuh want di ugly police bwoy come say nuttn to mi ennuh. Otherwise mi >wouldn't pay yuh a cent. Oonu is ole tief and ole vampire come fi suck out poor people blood.

Rambo the Minivan Driver: Excuse mi Mam, but mi nuh really understand this whole toll ting yah ennuh. Is why we haffi a pay toll when wi done arready pay motor vehicles taxes and all kinda other taxes?

TB Collector: I cant really answer that question for you sir. Please send a letter to your MP or Councillor and let them deal with that...in the meantime yuh need to pay the toll of $165.

Feisty rass claat parrot

A man boards an airliner, takes his seat and is surprised to find a large purple parrot occupying the seat next to him. France vs. Italy

Billions will watch with anticipation on Sunday, as football Giants France and Italy battle for the World Cup.

In my predictions during Germany '06, I was was wrong on Argentina vs. Germany, and on Brazil v France.

Should I stick my neck out one more time. Hell yes. Nothing to lose, not even ego.

France, I think will relieve the Chianti warriors from any bother of taking that cup back to Rome, or Milan or wherever they were thinking of.

Lets see if that is right.

I was unhappy to see Brazil depart yesterday, although I have always knows that Henry was dangerous, in fact I was saying that in the days before the match.

I am however elated with England's departure, whoever it is that was heroic enough to remove them, Portugal's penalties in this instance.

Looking forward to the Semi's - tell me, who do you like? Dr. D likes Germany, I know that already. They have to play Italy, I think, and Portugal vs. France - who do you like.

I know who I like, and that is Italy, but they were unable to beat USA who only had 9 men!

I would say its either Germany or France who will lift that ugly looking but much coveted cup.

Cricket:

West Indies just completed the Indian tour of the Caribbean.

West Indies won the ODI's convincingly, 4-1. Today, India won the test series by winning the only match with a result, 1-0.

This tour by India was an opportunity for those who had time to see that Windies are on the rise again, and like a Phoenix, they will rise from.. well you know the rest.

Denesh Ramdin batted a monster of an innings to day, and the WI were all out, 49 short of the requirement. Anyway, the Windies will not be playing for a while now, so my cricketing content will be reduced, much to the relief of my non-cricketing bloggionistas.

My boys are both fine now, just finishing off the medication. No swimming allowed for them in the mean time - hopefully they can swim next week - they are now on summer holidays and need activities designed to tire them into long bouts of peacecul slumber.

Now it will be time to get back to school shoes, backpacks, lunchkits, socks, and the Lord only knows what else. They are more high maintenance than me. All I need are a few beers an cigars and I am good.

World Cup, cricket, etc

I assume that those of you with all your faculties in place have been watching World Cup Football.

That Brazil game this morning was nice, I believe Brazil will be in the final, which I believe is early in July. Ghana has a lot to be proud of, nonetheless.

On cricket, well, the Windies are still fighting on, having mustered a 3rd draw in this test series. At least they were not losses, which they have done a lot for about 10 years now.

A bit stressed as my 3 year old is in hospital since Sunday with 2 enlarged tonsils, with fever going up to 103 on 2 occasions. I hope he will come home tonight - the Dr. hinted that may be the case if his fever is controlled today.

Well - I am off to watch the game with Spain and France - bets anyone? I would say Spain.

Those 2 draws that the Windies managed, the 2nd one with the help of the rain, showed that we have a long way to being truly comfortable with our cricket.

No fast bowling to speak of - and the selectors, Captain Lara has been told, are not interested in helping. I hate to say it, but I do believe the WICB and the selectors are incompetent, and they need to realise that.

Why, for example, was Dave Mohammed taken out? Now there is no genuine spin. That is why India is able to declare at 588. We are deep into this Indian tour, and our selectors are just as much our opponent as is India. We have no bowling.

While we are building up our batting, we need bowlers to get the other team out.
Collymore and Bradshaw are good, but not good enough to rip apart India.

The batting of Kaif, Dravid, Sehwag, Yuvrag, Dhoni, are just too much for Collins alone, and Edwards when he recovers. Suppose Tendulkar had come? I see that Andy Roberts has criticised Collins' return - I suppose he would have gone to Lawson or Best instead- who are above 90mph rippers. Collins did however get 4 wickets in 1 innings, and no one else got any wickets to speak of.

If you look at ICC you will see that we have no one in the top 10 bowlers for Test. Perhaps someone should print this and hand this to the selectors who probably hate the internet or something.

I don't think we will get over our present doldrums until all of the cricket personalities who are not moving in stride with the rest of the cricketing world are removed and put to pasture. I know this is harsh but this is West Indies Cricket they are toying with. Come on fellas time to cook or get out the kitchen.

Small note on Germany 2006: I was upset at T&T's loss this morning, although I am admittedly predisposed against England in whatever sport they play, and also in their hijacking of the legal profession in my little rock that I call home. And to think that the Soca Warriors held them until the 82nd minute, and then allowed the 2nd goal in injury time!

Sorry T& T - congrats - whoever stands up to the scourge you played against this morning deserve KUDOS.

Rally round the West Indies

Folks,

I had to attend a meeting and missed most of the session after tea on the 5th day of the Test, however we have escaped from the Jaws of Jonah's whale, after India pulled off a magnigicent recovery in the second innings, and in our 2nd innings all 11 West Indians had to bat, including 2 of our pace bowlers who had to face 19 balls and survive, and produce one thriller of a draw.

Sorry I had to miss the end of it, but there you go.

For those of you awaiting the bandwagon, we may not need you, since when we return to our glory most of our fan base will be international - however you will still be welcome, though there are late fees involved -

Onto the next test, the Shaq and Heat and the Dirk and the Mavs, and of course the World Cup.

I was thinking of putting a TV into my office for the Cup, but with the 2nd test on Saturday, I might need 2 - but Mrs. RI ain't having any of that nonsense.

Anyway it has been raining here every day - the season is here folks. I wont use the "H" word - but folks, please get ready, you know how it works.

Folks, for the time being, as you will have seen, this website has turned into a West Indies Cricket blog. I love cricket, folks, and not only Windies cricket at that.

This is an article which shows what doldrums WI cricket fans are in. The Windies have struggled for such a hard time, that the fans have turned into "jilted brides". Yes, even I have found it difficult to watch at times, but I have always and will always love cricket. Now, the writer of this Gleaner article swears that it will take a while for WI to win back his heartstrings. And, somehow, I suspect the greatest skepticism of our team has bred in Jamaica. Am I right folks? Hope not. Tell me it ain't so.

I was sitting some exams in England in 1999 when Murali and the rest of the Sri Lankans were taking England apart limb by limb down at the oval, at a time when I couldn't attend a match because of exams.

Mind you, the previous year, at a weekend in the middle of exams, I did attend Notting Hill carnival, so maybe carnival is less stressful, I don't know. Who knows where priorities lie from year to year.

Last night, I attended, lets call it a card game, in an air conditioned car garage in one of our more upmarket neighbourhoods, all men, lots of egos, lots of pizza, beer, rum, wine and cussin. It was
nice, I was invited by my new clients, who, as it turned out, did not have a great night of cards. I decided against lighting one of the puros which I had in my pocket - I had just met the host.

Lovers of the NBA, who do you like, Miami? Detroit? Dallas? Tell me. I like a lot of sports, you know, even those outside the region and across the pond.

Next week is World Cup, folks, who do you like? Boy T&T got a whipping from Slovenia yesterday. Hopefully they do better agains Paraguay and others they face in the first round. As much as it is revolting to me, England is looking strong - Who do you like? Tell me.

One more thing. Now you know Katie Couric has always caught most folks' attention on TV. But, can someone please provide a detailed explanation as to why she earns 15 million per year? Not a dismissive, one word answer, like "ratings" or whatever. A reasoned, answer please? I would just like to understand.

4-1. Great Start Windies - now time for real cricket.

For all who have chosen to close their eyes, the West Indies have won the ODI series against India, 4-1. The 5th game was horrible for India, as they were in the 25th over coasting towards victory, however they went into a terrible collapse, from which they never recovered, despite another masterful 90 odd from Sehwag, a dangerous batsman by any standard.

I did not expect the Windies to bowl their way into that 5th game at all - especially with Collymore out with a twisted ankle, and us depending on Taylor, Mohammed, Bravo, et al.

Lara made 38 in his farewell performance at Queens Park Oval, Dave Mohamed made a gem of a run out fielding his own bowling, and Dhoni, another Indian danger man, was out at 16.

Everyone hopes for the best for the test series. Chanderpaul hopes to recover from injury to play at St. John's Recreational Ground for the first match this coming Friday. Sachin Tendulkar has been ruled out of the series with his injury.

Laxman will be batting for India, not having played in the ODI's.

Folks the team now has the best lineup for several years and an improvement in their record is on the way. I think it is reasonable to say that, without going too far. If they continue the fielding they did in the last 4 ODI's, then they will be OK. The WI's fielding in the 1st ODI in Jamaica was atrocious. That has got to be put behind them.

Congrats to captain Lara, and on to the test.

Sarwan 115 not out! West Indies Cricket fan wannabes wake up!

Well the series is not yet finished, but for those of you in self-induced oblivion, the Windies soundly defeated India by 4 wickets today in the 3rd ODI held in in St. Christopher (AKA St. Kitts).

The Windies waited until the last over to seal the deal, in fact they waited until the penultimate ball, however, the victory, or a close finish anyway, was in sight (but not secured) from around the 35th over.

This is such an important matter that I am not waiting until the end of American Idol to finish typing it. I barely even saw what happened on AI. I saw one ridiculous pink jacket - Taylor should lose just for that to rass - but I believe he is a better singer than Katherine, whereas Katherine has a better stage presence. Someone please blog about it because me deh pan cricket right now.

Many of you that commented did not think the the West Indies could have won any games against India, but now they have won 2. I believe West Indies will win this series. (I won't go as far as Ja'can PM Simpson Miller and claim the Windies are appointed by God, but I am confident anyway. Neither will I say that all cricket fans must follow them, etc.)

There is a commentator called Jeremy Coney (former kiwi batsman). What a moron. From beginning to end, he has been hating us. He even once referred to India and said "we need to get more wickets".. he was totally missing from the closing ceremony and summary. Once, when we were about 17 runs from winning, he said "I hate to say this to WI fans, but I have seen the WI lose from this position before". The croud at Basseterre should have heard him (but they had no time for that, they were busy whining) and trampled him to rass, or at least knocked over his cup of tea and doused him with some Carib.

The replay showed that Umpire Rauf's LBW decision to end Shiv's innings at 58 was wrong. But, umpires have to look at things from the other end, in real time. My view, all LBW's should be referred to the 3rd umpire. So, just when either Jeff Dujon or one of the commentators was saying that this ump had a good day at the office, well, if we had lost, Rauf could have been responsible.

Again, I was sorry to see Lara and Morton fail with the bat -

On to Trinidad - watch it with me, folks, I believe we are looking good for this ODI series.

Instead of messing with our captain, try out today's vital error by Rahul Dravid (that's the Indian captain for those of you who prefer styroid driven "sports") messed up.

With more than 5 overs to go, he exausted the 10 over allocations of bowling by Powar and Harbajan (aka the Turbanator). Then, to the delight of Sarwan, Chanderpaul and others, he but back in a pace attack which I believe is worse than the Zimbabwe pace bowlers. (Do you remember Reon King, Merv Dillon and others who came in after Walsh and Ambrose? Well Dillon and King are better than India's fast bowlers.)

Then, Ramnaresh, the latest West Indian institution, blasted a huge century. He got 100 on his 100th ODI. And don't forget this, during a very threatening innings by India, Rammy also got a wicket bowled. I'd never seen him bowl before.. I was in paradise.

All bandwagonnists will be warmly welcomed, even you dissapear into the shadows if we don't do well at next years much vaunted World Cup.

NBA is on as well folks, well, I will watch some now until the disco at Bedrock calls..

If all else fails, Windies cricket will add to your stress

I hope you watched Saturday's thriller when the Windies beat India by one run. The margin does not matter, a win is a win.

I do not agree with some of my bloggionistas who have commented that the team is "piss poor". Such an assessment is unfair, if not unforensic.

Congrats to captain Lara and man of the match Ramnaresh Sarwan for an unbeaten ninety something. However it was dissapointing to see Chanderpaul, Lara, Gayle, Morton, Baugh and everyone else fail with the bat. Look forward to Tuesday in St. Kitts.

The Indian coach, Gregg Chappell, and indeed their captain, Rahul Dravid, have both commented that the Windies team has excellent players. Chappell says that the Windies have simply forgotten how to win. I believe that is true, however I also sense the beginning of a rebuild, and let it be known to all of you doubting Thomas bloggionistas, I will be there until it happens. I will not jump on the bandwagon when the time comes. But you all will be welcome to do so at that time.

Edwards, Taylor, Bradshaw, Gayle, Samuels - between those four, any batting attack has to be cautious. Our bowling strength is in pace, whereas India's bowling strength is spin. Harbajan (aka the Turbanator) can really deceive with that slow bowling.

Dorna had a nice post today with a bungling robber joke. Surf through that blog and you will see things less stressful than West Indies cricket. Yet, me and millions of dedicated fans continue steadfastly to be the advocates for the Windies. One day, I will have the last laugh. I am not that old, I will be alive.

Cricket again, one of my many loves

"Loves?" Well, this is the bloggosphere, so anything goes. Let down your inhibitions, and then the comments may come like bangarang.

It is not only that Zimbabwe is weak, folks. They have some good players. Inexperienced, yes, but they are not to be scoffed at, even if they were beaten by the UWI Chancellor's IX.

It is that we are improving. I cannot and will not stop harping about Runako Morton. He will excel against India. Look at the debut by Dave Mohammed. We now have strong cricketers. The numbskulls on the WICB won't hold them back forever.

And Jerome Taylor, what do you think folks.

I am just here noting a quick post on a Friday afternoon. I just absorbed, I mean drank a beer in several seconds. See Runako Morton, trust me, he will spend the next few days getting ready for India. India, no doubt, are ranked number 3 by the ICC and are not coming here to mess about. All the best Windies.

Hey folks... I had told you how Jerome Taylor was part of our future in good cricket, and also I told you how Runako Morton was a force to be reckoned with.

It matters not what these morons are writing on www.cricinfo.com. They criticised the Windies bitterly after the 2 wins last weekend. They almost crucified Tina Best for his wayward bowling yesterday (they gave him no credit for the wicket he did get) .. folks I am done with that website as I believe their writers are pre-disposed against us.

Folks, it seems that since I started working on my own my bloggage has slowed. My mind cannot focus on bloggage material. Anyway, I am back.. blog again hopefully sooner rather than later.

Now I am high and dry. After 8 years of faithful service she is gone. My boat, that is. I sold her on Thursday.

Cricket, lovely West Indies Cricket. Do you know its amazing, I asked everyone to rally round the Windies, and they still got a couple of boos.

Its amazing. This pastes a grim picture of the future for Chando.

Regardless of anything, it is not the way to improve our cricket, I am insisting. Somewhere deep inside all our troubles, is a European (at Digicel, maybe?) who is orchestrating a "divide an conquer" policy against the Windies. And we are too blind to see it.

My parents were in a car crash yesterday. Some young idiot was overtaking a line of cars coming from the West Bay direction down the new Esterley Tibbetts highway. My parents were going in the other direction. The guy, driving a Ford Escape SUV, hit my parents into a deep ditch. Some tourist ended up pulling my parents out, as they were afraid the car was going to sink into some water which was behind the car.

My mother remains in hospital with a badly bruised shin, a nasty cut on her hand with stitches, and some chest and back pains. I expect her out like tomorrow or Wednesday 12th.

Interestingly, my parents were driving a Mazda Tribute SUV which is actually the same vehicle as the Ford Escape, with slighly different trim etc, and different branding. I went to the Traffic Dept today and saw them both. Both are rightoffs, I would say, especially the Escape.

I will surf thru a couple of your blogs now.

Cricket remedy

West Indies Fans, I write to enlist your support for captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul. This man needs our unqualified support in that role as a critical element to his success. Without such support he will (continue to) suffer.

All the other test captains are given constant publicity. This is no accident. This is crucial and important. "Rally round the West Indies" is not just a great soca song, it is a very necessary and essential tool for West Indian cricketing success.

"Good vibes" is necessary and required. And this man needs to feel it from us. Sure, at the crease he stands up like a hermit crab, or a soldier crab as they are called in these beautiful islands that I call my home. Sometimes his bat is actually facing backward, but anyway, this man is accomplished, so let them talk.. this man is a serious cricketer, make no mistake about it.

No one should say that they are awaiting his replacement. No one should be singing Rock of Ages to his captaincy. Leave that to the WICB and the management of the team, in their seemingly infinite wisdom.

Zimbabwe is coming to the Islands to play us, remember folks, please turn on the cricket, attend a match, send an email, comment on a cricket blog, even watch the results on the sports news, whatever you do.. remember to rally round the West Indies.

A closer examination of West Indies cricket will reveal to those of us with a discerning eye (or at least those of us who are semi-conscious, like me) that West Indies cricket, despite the dismal results, is on the mend, I tell you.. watch Runako Morton, for example. There is a weapon to be reckoned with. Runako can stand up to the best in the world. You can see it for yourself, you need not take my word.

Support of our captain is of course only one of several important elements to his success and the success of the team itself. Shiv, the board, the team, and the management are more than capable of taking care of the rest. Support, good vibes, and good wishes are what you and I can do.

Foolinish

Have you ever noticed something? People will still write down numbers in their hands even though they can enter it into the phone? And it never gets into the phone, even if written on a piece of paper.

How about those who are pigging out on pizza, chinese food, junk food, etc, and then drinking a diet coke?

How about those using nutrament or slim fast drink as a beverage to have with a meal?

I saw Trouble twice this week at Cafe Del Sol/. I also saw his friend, known only the bloggosphere as "Wayne". Nice, this somewhat anonymous world of bloggage.

I tell you what, a couple of bombas usually pass through the Cafe Del Sol.

Well, folks - did you see any of that test match that was played by Shando and crew?

Lara - 5 and ducks? Next Match, Brian. Time to kick some kiwi ass.

Despite the results of this first test and also the 4-1 defeat in the ODI's, I do believe the Windies are on the mend.

Fidel Edwards, Jerome Taylor and Dwayne r Bravo have brought back some bowling that we prefer to see, in improvement to some of their predecessors that came after Walsh and Ambrose.

Ganga, a batsman that gave me the cusses when he first came to the team, has found his nick in a big way, and of course Chris Gayle, have both begun to bring back to the Windies what true openers are supposed to to do, although they have a ways to get back to the opening stands of Haynes and Marshall when I was a teenager.

I would say watch out for the second test. Sleep in the day, if you are in the Western Hemisphere. That includes you Abeni.

Lastly, congrats to Shane Bond. Anyone who can get Lara out on the first ball is truly a world class bowler.

Tuesday night Bloggage

I returned from Jam Rock after a relaxing weekend, to return to a week which has begun with a flurry at work. Anyway, that is not a complaint by any means.

I saw Dep. Comm. Mark Shields hanging out at the Hilton as well.

I did meet Doc. D for the 1st time live and in person, and he lived up to the sociable image he portrays on line. We had a couple of drinks at the Hilton Kingston, which is a very pleasant and relaxing spot where I stayed for the weekend. He was on call, and therefore he declined the tequila shots. He brought along one of his bredrin as well, a very cool brother.

I also attended by cousin's wedding and acted as a groomsman, which was quite an experience. The wedding was at the UWI chapel, which is an architectural wonder in itself. The Saturday of the wedding was an extremely long day, in that I left the jacuzzi at the Hilton at 2pm to get ready meet the groom at his room at 3 p.m., and the entire wedding and reception was finished at around 11 pm. Needless to say, I collapsed in my bed until about 9am Sunday morning. The reception was at the Les Ambassaduers, 18th Floor, Hilton. That was good fun as well.

During the wedding one of the bridesmaids, a doctor, went outside, vomited and fainted, and then returned to the lineup. Also, the wedding started without the bridesmaids, because at 3:45, 15 minutes before the start time, they were in Portmore, picking up their dresses, then one came wearing a different dress because hers did not fit. She and all the other bridesmaids had chosen not to collect the dresses or attend fittings prior to the wedding day.

Other than the above, the wedding was a nice affair. I will post pics of the wedding in my next post.
